7 Spots to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at UBC

UBC has a lot of great options across campus for when you need a sweet treat, so how do you even choose where to go? If you’re new to campus (or an upper year looking to try out a new spot), check out these sweet spots to find some of the tastiest desserts at UBC!

1. Hero Coffee + Market

Not only does Hero have great coffee, it also has a tasty selection of baked treats that you can’t find anywhere else on campus! Including the vegan chocolate ganache tarts pictured at the top of this post. Located right outside of Open Kitchen in Orchard Commons, Hero is a great spot to satisfy those sugar cravings. Some of my favourite things include their freshly-baked cookies and rotating cakes.

2. Blue Chip Cafe

Possibly one of UBC’s most famous food spots, Blue Chip Cafe is known for its delicious Blue Chip Cookies. From the Marbelous cookie to the Chunky cookie, there’s a cookie for everyone’s taste. In addition to the cookie selection, Blue Chip Cafe offers coffee, tea, sandwiches, and other baked treats.

3. The Point

The Point offers some of the best sweet treats on campus. Even though it’s a sit-down restaurant, my friends and I love to come to The Point to just get the desserts! The also do takeout. My personal favourites are the Epic Brownie topped with vanilla gelato and the rotating cheesecake menu. Be sure to check out the menu to see what yummy desserts they are offering when you visit!

4. Rain or Shine

Ahh…UBC’s ice cream staple: Rain or Shine. Home to arguably some of the best locally made ice cream in Vancouver, Rain or Shine has countless flavours to choose from, and the best part is the ice cream is homemade with fresh, natural, and sustainable ingredients!

5. The Beanery

Nestled in the buildings of Fairview Crescent, The Beanery is one of UBC’s hidden gems. This cozy, two-story coffee house is home to an array of delicious baked goods including brownies, Belgian waffles, and carrot cake. You can even find Grounds For Coffee’s famous cinnamon buns here. If you make the scenic walk over to The Beanery, don’t leave without trying the hot chocolate!

6. UBC Food Services Cafés

There are several UBC Food Services Cafés scattered across campus that serve freshly baked goods every day. These locations are great for grabbing a quick treat in between classes to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here you can find muffins, cookies, rice krispie squares, UBC’s classic Cinnamon Buns and Ponderosa Cake, and seasonal treats around Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s and Easter.

7. Residence Dining Rooms

The residence dining rooms are a great place to pick up a sweet treat! In addition to the baked goods offered at the UBC Food Services Cafés, they are home to sweet treats that can’t be found anywhere else on campus. Take a walk around Feast, Gather, or Open Kitchen for some unique treat options like cakes and pies!
