COVID-19 Update

UBC is regularly receiving and proactively responding to updated information from the Provincial Medical Health Office, BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), BC Ministry of Health and Vancouver Coastal Health.

The Public Health Agency of Canada continues to assess the public health risk associated with the virus. We continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide ongoing updates as needed. We encourage you to stay up-to-date through ubc.ca, and continue to practice social distancing.

What We're Doing

As always, safety and security remain our highest priorities. In response to COVID-19, UBC Food Services has taken the following additional precautions:

"1" in a black circle

Increased frequency of cleaning in high-touch areas

"2" in a black circle

Hand sanitizer stations are available in all residence dining locations

"3" in a black circle

Staff are reminded to wash their hands frequently and with proper hand-washing techniques

"4" in a black circle

Staff are asked to stay home if they are ill or have flu symptoms

What does this mean for Residence Dining Rooms?

Currently, Feast, Gather and Open Kitchen are enacting the following protocols:

  1. Maximum 30 customers in the servery
  2. When servery is at capacity, customers must line up outside on markers placed 2 metres apart until invited into the servery by staff
  3. All meals are takeout only and served in single-use containers
  4. Only disposable cutlery is available
  5. Seating in the dining rooms is not permitted

Further steps will be considered, as necessary.

What does this mean for other UBC Food Services locations?

In response to the current COVID-19 situation, except for Harvest, all Retail locations are closed until further notice.

Harvest is enacting the following protocols:

  1. All self-serve dispensers and coffee shuttles are sanitized, including spouts and push bars are sanitized every 30 minutes
  2. All door handles, pin pads, touch screens, and door handles are sanitized every 30 minutes
  3. All pastries that were previously open to self-serve are now under a dome, wrapped, or behind glass
  4. All counter surfaces are washed and sanitized every 4 hours

Further steps will be considered, as necessary.

What You Can Do

Coronavirus COVID-19 is transmitted through contaminated droplets spread by coughing or sneezing, or by contact with contaminated hands, surfaces or objects. Here are important tips for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

"1" in a black circle

Wash your hands frequently for 20-30 seconds using soap and water, or by applying enough 60-90% alcohol-based hand sanitizer to cover all surfaces and rubbing your hands for 20-30 seconds until dry

"2" in a black circle

Do not touch your eyes/nose/mouth with unwashed hands

"3" in a black circle

When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or the crease of your elbow, and then wash your hands

"4" in a black circle

Stay home when you are ill or if you have fly symptoms like fever or cough, to avoid spreading the illness to others

"5" in black circle

Avoid close contact with people who are sick with an infection

"6" in black circle

If you don't need to be out, stay home
