A choose-what-you-pay café for the UBC community. The three-tier pricing system was created to make a wholesome meal accessible to everyone, including those who are food insecure at UBC. Serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, while supplies last.
Fooood is operated by UBC Food Services and labour is provided by our Red Seal Chef Apprentices. Food + labour at this location is subsidized by UBC and generous customers.
Fooood closes at 1:30pm daily, or when the food runs out.
The Story Behind Fooood
We know food insecurity is a problem on this campus. A Food Insecurity Action Committee, supported by the UBC Board of Governors, has been created to enhance existing efforts and explore new opportunities to help this problem. Fooood is one small exploratory step in our journey.
We also know discounting food is not an ideal or long-term solution. Good food costs money. And food insecurity is complicated. It is only one aspect of overall financial insecurity caused by a complex web of factors. We’ll continue to explore and initiate other projects that help address this topic.
