Fooood is created for students only. Food and labour at this location is subsidized by UBC, operated by UBC Food Services as a not-for-profit location—the subsidy allows us to offer meals at the low price of $3.
Two locations, IRC and EOS, serving lunch Monday through Friday, while supplies last.
Fooood closes at 2pm daily, or when the food runs out.
The Story Behind Fooood
We know food security is a problem on this campus for students. The UBC Food Security Initiative, supported by the UBC Board of Governors, has been created to enhance existing efforts and explore new opportunities. UBC has provided a one-tie subsidy from it’s recent tuition increase (mandated to be directly returned to students) to each of the two Fooood locations to support student food security.
Fooood is one small exploratory step in UBC’s food security journey. It is operated by UBC Food Services as a not-for-profit location —the subsidy allows us to offer low priced $3 healthy meals for students only. We know subsidizing food is not an ideal or long-term solution; food security is complicated and relates to overall financial security caused by a complex web of factors.
