Did you know March is Nutrition Month? The goal of National Nutrition month is to encourage all Canadians to eat well with Registered Dietitians being the trusted source of credible nutrition information. This year, we are celebrating the potential of food to fuel, discover, prevent, heal and bring us together. Here are 3 quick tips to help you discover the power of food.

1. Grocery shopping.

Knowing what to buy when you are grocery shopping is a huge part of understanding how food has the potential to fuel our bodies. With tons of conflicting information out there, planning, shopping, cooking and snacking can all seem like daunting tasks. Luckily, UBC Nutrition students are offering free grocery tours to help you get answers, tips and tricks. Plus, you get 10% off groceries during the tour!

2. Community events.

Nutrition month is an exciting time for nutrition students and dietitians. Meet some new friends and discover the power of food by attending an on-campus event on March 20 to raise awareness about what dietitians do and win tons of free prizes! You can also check out a free lunchtime workshop at the wellness centre on March 12 to help you learn more about meal prepping.

3. Share a meal.

Food is a great way to bring people together and research shows that shared meals may help in supporting your mental health and boost success in university. So, this month, challenge yourself to get together and cook a meal for some friends or host a potluck where everyone brings a dish to contribute. This is a great way to practice your cooking skills and catch up with old friends. Stuck on what to cook? Cookspiration by Dietitians of Canada has you covered with an awesome collection of 29 delicious recipes to help you get started!
